Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to information when you use the wheel, what we store, what we never see, and the rights you have. It is written to be read rather than skimmed past.

1. Our approach in one paragraph

Wheel Spinner is built so that there is almost nothing to collect. The wheel runs entirely inside your web browser: the names you type are processed on your own device, are never transmitted to us, and are never stored on our servers. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not sell or share personal information with data brokers or advertisers.

2. Who we are

This policy applies to the website spinthenamesofwheel.com, operated by Wheel Spinner. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights described below, contact privacy@spinthenamesofwheel.com or use the contact page.

3. Information you enter on the wheel

Names, words, prizes, tasks or any other text you place on the wheel are handled only by JavaScript running in your browser. This information:

is not sent to our servers;
is not visible to us or to any other visitor;
is not used for analytics, profiling or advertising;
is saved only in your browser's local storage, so your list survives a page refresh.

You can erase it at any time with the "Clear all" button or by clearing your browser's site data. Once erased, it cannot be recovered by us or by you, because we never had a copy.

4. Information you send us deliberately

If you email us or use the contact and feedback form, we receive whatever you choose to include — typically your name, your email address, an optional star rating and your message. We use it only to answer you and to improve the tool. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to handle the matter and a reasonable period afterwards, then delete it. We do not add you to a marketing list.

5. Local storage and cookies

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The site uses your browser's local storage — a small device-side store, not a cookie sent to a server — to remember:

the entries currently on your wheel;
your chosen language;
your settings: sound on or off, spin length, palette, hide names, remove winner.

None of these values leave your device. Clearing your browsing data removes them and resets the site to its defaults.

6. Server logs

Like almost every website, our hosting provider records standard technical information when a page is requested: IP address, date and time, the page requested, referring page, and browser user-agent. These logs exist for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults. They are kept for a limited period and are not used to build a profile of you or combined with anything you type on the wheel.

7. Third-party services

We keep third parties to a minimum. Currently the site loads a web-font stylesheet from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers and Google may log the IP address involved in serving that font. No wheel content is included in that request. If you would rather avoid it entirely, the fonts can be self-hosted — get in touch and we will point you at the change.

We do not run advertising networks, social media pixels, session recorders or heat-mapping tools.

8. Children's privacy

The wheel is widely used in schools, so this matters. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because entries are never transmitted, a teacher typing a class register into the wheel is not sending student data to us, and there is no student profile for us to build.

If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, email privacy@spinthenamesofwheel.com and we will delete it promptly.

9. Legal bases for processing (UK and EU visitors)

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, our legal bases are:

Legitimate interests — keeping the site secure and available, and replying to messages you send us;
Consent — where you voluntarily submit your details through the contact form.

Because the wheel's contents never reach us, we are not a controller of the names you enter; you are.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict processing, request a portable copy, or complain to your data protection authority. Residents of California and other US states with similar laws may request disclosure of the categories of personal information collected and may opt out of any sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.

To make a request, email privacy@spinthenamesofwheel.com. We will respond within the period required by the applicable law, normally within 30 days.

11. Data retention

Wheel entries and settings live on your device until you clear them. Contact messages are retained while the conversation is open and for a reasonable period afterwards. Server logs are rotated on a short schedule by our hosting provider.

12. International transfers

Our website is served from hosting infrastructure that may be located outside your country, and email we receive may be processed in another country. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards offered by our providers, such as standard contractual clauses.

13. Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and the client-side design means the most sensitive information involved — your list of names — is never in transit or at rest on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but keeping data on your device removes the largest category of risk entirely.

14. Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Material changes will be highlighted on the home page. Reviewing this page occasionally is the best way to stay informed.
